Rack installers, sprinkler fitters, and lighting crews inside a distribution building usually need an electric slab scissor, a clear aisle, and a plan for the sprinkler heads.
What to measure before you call
Measure the clear height under the joists and the width of the aisle the machine has to travel. A 32 ft scissor that cannot turn in the aisle is the wrong machine even when the platform height looks right. Note dock doors, rack that is already standing, and whether the floor is a new slab or an old one with joints and slopes.
If the work is above the first level of rack and you have to reach into a bay, a small boom sometimes beats a taller scissor. Say which one you think you need, and also describe the obstacle. The yard can correct the guess.
- Electric machines and occupied warehouses do not mix with diesel exhaust.
- Ask the building who has to approve floor loading.
- Night and weekend work should be on the request so delivery is not planned for a locked gate.
